The urine test for sexually transmitted infections focuses on detecting 31 pathogens that cause infections of the urinary and genital tracts, including bacteria and yeasts commonly associated with sexually transmitted diseases.
The test provides rapid and accurate identification of the following 31 pathogens: Herpes simplex virus I (HSV-1), Herpes simplex virus II (HSV-2), Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis, Candida auris, Candida krusei, Candida dubliniensis, Candida parapsilosis, Streptococcus agalactiae, Corynebacterium minutissimum, Bartonella henselae, Actinomyces israelii, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Lactobacillus crispatus, Lactobacillus jensenii, Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus iners, Bifidobacterium, Fannyhessea vaginae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Leptotrichia, Ureaplasma parvum, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Chlamydia trachomatis, Treponema pallidum, Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica

The sample is collected from urine only - without the need for a urethral swab.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

The urine test for sexually transmitted infections focuses on detecting 31 pathogens that cause infections of the urinary and genital tracts, including bacteria and yeasts commonly associated with sexually transmitted diseases. The test provides rapid and accurate detection of the following 31 pathogens:

Viruses

  • Herpes simplex virus I (HSV-1): A virus causing cold sores, usually around the mouth, but it can also be transmitted to the genital area.
  • Herpes simplex virus II (HSV-2): A virus responsible for genital herpes with painful blisters, transmitted through sexual contact.

Fungi

  • Candida albicans: The most common yeast causing vaginal candidiasis, manifested by itching, discharge, and irritation of the mucosa.
  • Candida glabrata: A yeast less sensitive to antifungal treatment, a frequent cause of recurrent vaginal infections.
  • Candida tropicalis: A yeast that can cause infections, especially in women after antibiotic therapy or with weakened immunity.
  • Candida auris: A resistant yeast, difficult to treat, mostly found in healthcare settings.
  • Candida krusei: A yeast resistant to some antifungal drugs, can cause inflammation in immunocompromised individuals.
  • Candida dubliniensis: A yeast similar to C. albicans, usually responsive to treatment but may cause similar symptoms.
  • Candida parapsilosis: A yeast commonly found on the skin, capable of causing secondary vaginal infections.

Bacteria

  • Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B): A bacterium that can cause vaginal and urinary infections; monitored in pregnant women due to the risk of transmission to newborns.
  • Corynebacterium minutissimum: A bacterium that, when the balance is disrupted, can cause skin and mucosal infections (erythrasma).
  • Bartonella henselae: A bacterium known as the cause of “cat scratch disease,” which can also cause other infections in immunocompromised individuals.
  • Actinomyces israelii: A bacterium that, when overgrown, can cause chronic inflammation with nodule or abscess formation.
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae: The bacterium responsible for gonorrhea – a sexually transmitted infection characterized by discharge and painful urination.
  • Haemophilus ducreyi: A bacterium causing chancroid, a sexually transmitted disease with painful genital ulcers.
  • Lactobacillus crispatus: A protective bacterium of the vaginal flora that helps maintain acidic pH and prevents pathogen growth.
  • Lactobacillus jensenii: A beneficial bacterium that supports a stable and healthy vaginal environment.
  • Lactobacillus gasseri: Part of the healthy vaginal flora, producing lactic acid and protecting against infections.
  • Lactobacillus iners: A naturally occurring vaginal bacterium whose overgrowth may sometimes be associated with dysbiosis.
  • Bifidobacterium spp.: Beneficial bacteria that support microbiota balance and defense against pathogens.
  • Fannyhessea vaginae: A bacterium often associated with bacterial vaginosis and disruption of vaginal balance.
  • Gardnerella vaginalis: A key bacterium associated with bacterial vaginosis that disturbs the natural vaginal environment.
  • Leptotrichia spp.: Anaerobic bacteria that may be part of vaginal dysbiosis and contribute to inflammation.

Mycoplasma

  • Ureaplasma parvum: A sexually transmitted bacterium that can cause inflammation of the urinary and genital tracts.
  • Ureaplasma urealyticum: A sexually transmitted bacterium often present in chronic urinary tract inflammations.
  • Mycoplasma hominis: A bacterium without a cell wall, frequently found in bacterial vaginosis and pelvic inflammatory conditions.
  • Mycoplasma genitalium: A sexually transmitted bacterium that can cause urethritis, cervicitis, or pelvic inflammation.

Chlamydia

  • Chlamydia trachomatis: The most common sexually transmitted bacterial infection, often asymptomatic but can lead to infertility.

Spirochetes

  • Treponema pallidum: The bacterium that causes syphilis – a serious sexually transmitted disease with a chronic course.

Parasites

  • Trichomonas vaginalis: A sexually transmitted parasite causing vaginitis with frothy discharge, itching, and burning.
  • Entamoeba histolytica: A parasite typically affecting the digestive tract but capable of causing genital infections as well.
