This test detects and quantifies the genetic material of the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) in blood using the PCR method. It allows direct identification of active viral infection and determination of the viral load.
The test is used in cases of suspected acute or reactivated EBV infection, in patients with unexplained long-term symptoms (such as fatigue, lymph node enlargement, or fever), and for monitoring individuals with weakened immune systems. Detection of EBV DNA helps distinguish active infection from past exposure and is also important for monitoring disease progression and treatment effectiveness.
