This test detects the presence of IgM antibodies against the rubella virus in the blood. These antibodies appear in the early phase of infection and serve as a marker of acute or recent rubella infection.
The test is mainly used when an active rubella infection is suspected, especially in pregnant women or in patients with clinical symptoms such as rash, fever, and enlarged lymph nodes. A positive result requires further medical evaluation due to the potential risks to the fetus.
