Product detailed description
The calcitonin blood test is used to assess thyroid gland function and calcium metabolism in the body. Calcitonin is a hormone produced by cells of the thyroid gland that helps regulate calcium levels in the blood. The test is primarily used when medullary thyroid cancer is suspected, for monitoring patients after treatment of this disease, or in the evaluation of certain thyroid nodules. Calcitonin levels may also be elevated in some other medical conditions and inflammatory states.
