Product detailed description
This test determines the presence of IgG autoantibodies against pancreatic islet cells (Islet Cell Antibodies – ICA) using the indirect immunofluorescence (IF) method. These antibodies are markers of an autoimmune process directed against the pancreatic β-cells responsible for insulin production.
The test is primarily used in the diagnosis and early detection of type 1 diabetes mellitus and in distinguishing autoimmune diabetes (LADA) from type 2 diabetes. A positive result may precede the clinical onset of the disease and helps assess the risk of its development, especially in individuals with a family history or in patients with other autoimmune disorders.
