The presence of pepsin may be associated with the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus or even the throat area, which is typical for gastroesophageal reflux disease or so-called laryngopharyngeal reflux. This test is suitable for individuals experiencing symptoms such as heartburn, chronic cough, hoarseness, a sensation of a lump in the throat, or throat irritation. The sample is collected easily from saliva, without the need for a blood draw.
