Tests measuring the levels of testosterone and free testosterone in the blood are laboratory assessments used to determine the concentration of testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, in the bloodstream. This hormone plays a key role in the male reproductive system, including the development of male reproductive organs, sperm production, muscle building, bone growth, and supporting sexual libido.

We offer testosterone testing in three variants:

  • total testosterone (includes both bound and free testosterone),
  • free testosterone,
  • a combination of total and free testosterone.

TESTOSTERONE CHECK

Testosterone Check

A testosterone blood test is a laboratory test that measures the amount of testosterone and free testosterone in the blood. Testosterone is a hormone that plays a key role in the growth and development of male reproductive tissues, including development of the reproductive organs, support of sexuality and vitality, and also promotes secondary sex characteristics such as increase in muscle mass and growth of body hair.

This test is often used to investigate the causes of various health problems in men, such as low fertility, testicular dysfunction, or tumors in the genital area. It can also be used to monitor testosterone levels during hormone therapy.

Did you know that testosterone levels drop by approximately 1% from the age of 30?

Why is it important to test free testosterone as well?

Free testosterone specifically measures the amount of testosterone that is not bound to protein and is freely available in the blood. Free testosterone is biologically active and can enter body tissues where it performs its hormonal functions. The level of free testosterone is considered a more accurate indicator of bioavailable testosterone.
