Anti-Ganglioside Antibodies (a-Gangliosides)

A blood test used to detect antibodies against gangliosides, which are components of the cell membranes of nerve cells. These antibodies may be associated with certain autoimmune disorders of the peripheral nervous system and various neuropathies. The test is used as a supplementary diagnostic tool in the evaluation of neurological symptoms such as sensory disturbances, tingling, muscle weakness, or impaired movement. Results should always be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical condition and other diagnostic findings.

IgG – IgG antibodies against gangliosides may be present in certain autoimmune neurological disorders. Their detection can assist in the diagnosis of specific neuropathies and other immune-mediated diseases of the nervous system.

IgM – IgM antibodies against gangliosides are particularly associated with certain chronic peripheral neuropathies. The test may aid in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of autoimmune neurological disorders.
