Anti-ZnT8 Antibodies (a-ZnT8)
A blood test used to detect antibodies against zinc transporter 8 (ZnT8), a protein found in the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. The presence of these antibodies may indicate an autoimmune process leading to the destruction of beta cells and is primarily associated with type 1 diabetes. The test is used as a supplementary tool in the diagnosis of autoimmune diabetes and in distinguishing type 1 diabetes from other forms of diabetes. Results should always be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical condition and other laboratory findings.
