    The NT-proBNP test is a blood test that measures the level of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in the blood. This peptide is released by the heart in response to increased pressure inside the heart's chambers. Elevated levels of NT-proBNP may indicate heart failure or other heart-related issues. The NT-proBNP test is often used to diagnose and monitor heart failure, assess the severity of heart disease, and distinguish heart-related causes of shortness of breath from other causes.
